Lazy Sunday Morning

“Who was that on the phone?” Hazel eyes remain closed even as the terrain sighs. Shifts. Landmarks changing in an instant.

Mountaineering is a dangerous occupation; one fraught with pitfalls for the unwary. But cunning serves to guide the skilled over treacherous landscapes.

“Your brother. Looking for company.” Our intrepid explorer traverses the hollow at the back of the knee, fingers crisscrossing the freckled range as they strive ever higher toward their goal.

“Tickles.” A wriggle instead of complaint. “Did you tell him we’re busy?”

“Hmmm.” All focus on the summit now within sight. Then, suddenly, sheets billow overhead.

Avalanche.
